Ed Motta, the Colossus of Rio, returns with Toc-Toc, his 16th album and first in 13 years sung in Portuguese. It feels like a real homecoming, bringing him back to his native language and his signature mix of soul, funk, jazz and Brazilian groove.
Inspired by the shimmering sound of the 1980s, Toc-Toc moves through sophisticated electro-funk, soulful grooves, lush harmonies and unmistakable Brazilian rhythms. The melodies are instantly inviting, while the arrangements and Motta’s warm, unmistakable voice keep everything locked in tight.
Born into one of Brazil’s great musical families, Ed Motta is the nephew of songwriter and soul pioneer Tim Maia. Since starting out professionally at 15, he’s built a three-decade career across 16 studio albums, blending Brazilian music with the influence of Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire and Cameo.
