The North Carolina quartet Cor de Lux, formed in 2018 by guitarist/vocalist Dawn Moraga and guitarist Tim Lusk, has released their third album “Year of the Horse” on the Ipecac label. The band’s sound bridges post-punk, hardcore, indie rock, and shoegaze, drawing heavy influence from 1990s guitar music and acts like Sonic Youth, Drop Nineteens, and Karate. Their material features deadpan vocals shifting into powerful shrieks, supported by technical arrangements filled with tempo shifts and start-stop dynamics. Complemented by drummer Dana Quinn and bassist John Bliven, the line-up displays tight musical chemistry, capturing an era of flexible and dynamic rock music.
