1621 was the year in which one of Europe’s most influential composers passed away—Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1561–1621), who inspired an entire generation of musicians with his knowledge and artistry. That same year, one of his students—Samuel Scheidt (1587–1654)—achieved a popular success with his *Ludi musici*. The Vienna-based recorder ensemble AS TIME GOES BY – A New Consort of Music presents this music in an exceptionally exciting and insightful interpretation that brings to light the nuances and details of these delightful compositions.
