Vocal Jazz, Swing | Label: Decca Records
While Armstrong recorded his initial heavy-hitting jazz standard sessions for American Decca, Decca Records France curated this specific sequence to bridge his traditional 1930s–1940s American big band stride with the global pop-jazz numbers that later defined his career. Because this is a French-market specific release, the tracklist purposefully highlights Armstrong’s deep connection to France. It spotlights his legendary 1950 covers of “La Vie En Rose” and “C’est si bon”—recordings that heavily endeared “Satchmo” to Parisian and European audiences. Alongside timeless, universally known masterworks like “What a Wonderful World” and “Hello, Dolly!”, this 12-track edition includes rarer gems like “The Dummy Song” and “Chloe (Song Of The Swamp)”, offering a window into his comedic and theatrical vocal styling beyond his standard radio hits.
