‘Vexations’ ranks among the most radical and fascinating compositions in music history. The work consists of only a few measures of music, which Satie, however, accompanied with the enigmatic instruction to repeat them 840 times. The result is a musical experience of extraordinary intensity that raises fundamental questions about time, perception, concentration, and the very act of listening. Later composers such as John Cage recognized *Vexations* as a milestone of musical modernism and the avant-garde.
