Learn Android Debug Bridge, logcat, dumpsys and PowerShell automation for smart modules, with board-free practice.

What you’ll learn
⚡ Connect to an ADB-enabled Android smart module and distinguish missing, offline and unauthorized targets.
⚡ Select the correct device and inspect Android build properties, packages, processes, memory and storage.
⚡ Transfer files with ADB push/pull, verify SHA-256 hashes and deploy an owned test APK safely.
⚡ Use logcat and dumpsys to investigate application failures and prepare useful, privacy-aware diagnostic evidence.
⚡ Evaluate boot readiness, runtime health and recovery without confusing an ADB connection with a working product.
⚡ Automate bounded ADB checks and timestamped evidence collection using PowerShell on Windows.
⚡ Practice connection and troubleshooting decisions without a board using supplied offline fixtures and a local Python model.
⚡ Complete a capstone diagnosis with supported findings, explicit limitations and a justified next action.

Requirements
❗ – Basic familiarity with a terminal, folders and files. No previous ADB experience is required.
❗ – A Windows computer is recommended to follow the demonstrated workflows. Section 7 scripts require Windows and PowerShell 7.2 or later.
❗ – Python 3.10 or later is required for the supplied board-free model in Sections 2 and 8. It uses the Python standard library.
❗ – Android SDK Platform-Tools are needed for optional real-device ADB practice.

Description
Learn to communicate with Android-powered embedded devices usingAndroid Debug Bridge (ADB), investigate common failures, and turn command output into useful engineering evidence. This course takes you from choosing the correct target to building a repeatable debugging and validation workflow for Android smart modules.

Build a Repeatable Embedded Android Troubleshooting Workflow

An ADB connection is a starting point, not proof that a product is working. You will learn how to separate connection problems, application behavior, system observations and unanswered questions, so your next action is based on evidence rather than guesswork.

The course focuses on practical device investigation. It is designed for engineers and technical learners working with Android-powered embedded products, such as smart terminals, kiosks, gateways and other integrated devices. You do not need to build Android from source or develop a mobile application to follow the lessons.

Connect and Understand Your Target

Start with the ADB communication model, USB connection layers and explicit device selection. Interpret missing, unauthorized and offline targets, and learn why a recovery action should match the problem you have actually observed. Explore the prerequisites and safety boundaries of network ADB using disclosed examples, rather than assuming every image supports the same connection method.

Next, establish a baseline: Android build properties, shell context, installed packages, running processes, system services, memory and storage. Learn what these observations tell you, what they do not prove, and how to keep a clear record of both.

Deploy Safely and Investigate Failures

Practice file transfer with ADB push and pull, verify file integrity, and follow a controlled test-APK workflow. Understand the difference between installing an application, launching a component, observing a process and confirming application behavior.

Uselogcat to interpret relevant messages and capture a reproducible window of evidence. Usedumpsys to investigate selected system services, distinguish a launch error from a runtime exception, and prepare a support-ready diagnostic summary. Privacy-aware evidence handling is part of the workflow throughout.

Automate Checks and Complete a Capstone

Move beyond one-off commands withPowerShell automation on Windows. Work with supplied scripts for bounded command execution, timestamped evidence collection and explicit readiness decisions. Preserve failures and unavailable observations instead of treating incomplete checks as success.

Finish with a board-free capstone that brings together connection reasoning, baseline observations, diagnosis and reporting. Attempt the exercise first, then compare your findings with the worked solution and identify the next justified check.

Practice Without Buying a Board First

You can begin with the supplied offline exercises without owning a physical board. Sections 2 and 8 include a local Python response model that returns synthetic teaching outputs. It is not a full Android emulator, does not run ADB, and does not test a physical device or network endpoint. Optional real-device practice requires an authorized ADB-enabled target; capabilities and outputs vary by vendor image, Android version and permissions.

By the end, you will have a reusable method for investigating an unfamiliar embedded Android target and reporting supported findings, limitations and next steps. This course does not teach rooting, firmware flashing or AOSP/BSP compilation.

AI and Demonstration Disclosure

AI-assisted teaching materials and narration generated using an instructor-authorized voice clone are used in this course. Demonstrations combine edited replays of saved device evidence with clearly labeled synthetic fixtures and local-model exercises; they are not presented as continuous live board recordings. Simulated results do not establish real hardware identity, device readiness or external network reachability.

Who this course is for
⭐ – Embedded software and firmware engineers working with Android-powered smart modules and devices.
⭐ – System-integration, platform and validation engineers who need repeatable device checks and useful diagnostics.
⭐ – QA and test engineers investigating logs, application behavior and readiness on embedded Android products.
⭐ – Technical support and field engineers who need structured evidence instead of disconnected screenshots.
